Do you understand what the will of the Lord is for your life? Are you sure that you are doing what God created you to do? Or, do you feel like you are just wondering through life, allowing circumstances to determine what direction you are to take? Do you have to be intentional to fulfill God’s will or will it happen by accident and you will somehow stumble into it?
One of the most asked questions is, “How do I know the will of God?”. God is not hiding his will from you. He wants you to understand what his will for your life is. Scripture says, “So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” – Ephesians 5:17. Do YOU understand what his will for your life is?
You can discern, know and prove what God’s will is. God has a specific will for your life and he wants you to have the joy, the assurance and the satisfaction that comes from knowing you are living in that good, well pleasing and perfect will of God. The apostle Paul wrote: “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2.
Before you were conceived, God had conceived you in his heart. You are not a mistake. Before you were physically formed in your mother’s womb, God had woven into you your talents, abilities, inclinations and personality. You were born at a certain place, at a certain time, for a certain purpose to fulfill. In fact, the writer of Psalms 139:16 wrote, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”.
You, like the apostle Paul, have been chosen and called by God for a specific purpose and this all happened before you were even born. “But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace.” – Galatians 1:15. Clearly it was by God’s unmerited empowering presence, because you had not even been born yet, made a mess of your life yet, or experienced any great achievements yet. Currently, you may not be fully walking in that calling, but you can.
If you will offer and commit your life to God, giving him complete control and management of your life, you have taken the first step into understanding God’s specific will for your life. This is not a one-time commitment either, but a daily surrender.  This is then followed up by intentionally allowing God to change the way you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful and satisfying life, perfect in his eyes.
“Then you can know Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? To surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.
Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” – Romans 12:1-2 - By David Cannon
